Spring Fever

Hello Hoover Rockets!

Spring break is almost upon us and our students and staff are ready to enjoy some spring weather next week. I know many of our families will be spending time together and perhaps going on trips. Wherever you are spending your spring break, I hope it's a happy time and that some good memories are made! We had a fun week wrapping up our March is Reading Month activities.  We look forward to seeing the students when they return on Monday, April 4.  Remind your child to keep reading even after Reading Month has ended!

This is Ruth McNally Barshaw who visited Hoover on Monday and showed the students how to draw illustrations and use their imagination in story writing.

 March is Reading Month Assemblies 

Today we had an assembly called the Magic of Reading.  The students heard the beginning of stories to peek their interest and then Doug Scheer told them the name of the book to look for in the Library.  It was a lot of fun!

*Thank you Hoover Rocket families for participating in our PJ Day.  We raised over $250 today. 

*The Five Below Fundraiser continues until 3/27.  Bring your flyer and Hoover will get a percentage of your sales.

Did you know that Hoover partners with the Churchill High School Football Program to provide "Big Brothers".  Once a week starting in April a few football players will be coming to partner with some of our 4th grade students.  You might seem them on the playground playing catch or basketball with students.  You might see them tutoring students or practicing math facts with our Hoover Rockets! Thank you Churchill!

Guest Readers at Hoover!

Hello Hoover Rockets,

We are continuing to celebrate March is Reading month at Hoover.  On Wednesday evening, families enjoyed time together playing Book Bingo.

Today was Guest Reader Day.  Thank you to all our Guest Readers who spent time reading and sharing with our Hoover Rockets.  Some of our Special Guests included Mrs. Moore and Mrs. Kidder Riley Principals, Churchill Football Players, a Livonia Fireman, a retired Detroit Police Commander, an army specialist, Farmer Don, Livonia Librarians, Stevenson Hockey players, Rosemary and her therapy dog. We are so thankful to the Livonia Community for giving back to our Hoover Rockets today!  Ask your Hoover Rocket who read to their class today?

Did you know that research shows that the more parents are involved with the school and partners with teachers, the more successful their children are? Our teachers use a variety of ways to communicate with parents including email, websites, Class Dojo, phone calls and of course parent conferences. Please be sure to keep in contact with your child's teacher and ask your child what they learn each day. Great things are happening at Hoover!

Student's Opinions Matter

Hello Hoover Rockets,

This week, at Hoover we began to survey our students, to identify how they feel about their educational experience.  Mrs. Linn will take each class into the Computer Lab to complete the survey over the next couple weeks.

SAVING ENERGY
Today our 4th Grade students attended an assembly to learn how they can save energy at home.  Each 4th grade student is bringing home an energy saving kit that you can use to reduce your water consumption, and electricity.  If our 4th grade families complete the Home Worksheet and return them to Hoover, each classroom could earn $100 from DTE.  Please look for the Worksheet in your kits that came home today.  We need 80% returned.  This amazing experience was provided at no charge to Hoover thanks to DTE and Consumers Energy.

March is Reading Month

Today are Teachers swapped classrooms and read to students as part of our March is Reading Month Celebration!  Please remind your Hoover Rocket to read everyday!

* Thank you for participating in the Barnes and Noble and Noodles and Company fundraiser last weekend.

Five Below will be giving 10% of our Sale back to Hoover if you present the flyer between March 18-March 27.

We are still collecting books for our Book Bingo Night which is Wednesday, March 16th 6:00-8:00 p.m.  All families are invited to come and play Bingo!

Snow and Star Fun!

Hello Hoover Rockets!

The students had a lot of fun playing in the snow this week.  We also enjoyed learning about the Stars with Mrs. Lipinski in the Star Lab.

March is Reading Month

Mrs. Linn went into every classroom and read this week to kick off March is Reading Month.  Look for the list of events in the Hoover Highlights next week.

*Please continue to bring in your adult and children books for Book Bingo.  We will be using these donated books for prizes (please no baby or board books)

*Come shop at Barnes and Noble on Sunday and a percentage of sales will be returned to Hoover.  Dine out at Noodles and Company and Hoover will also earn back 25%.  If 50 people show they have the Noodles and Company App on their phone, Hoover will earn 30% instead of 25%.  So download the app and enjoy dinner at Noodles and Company on Sunday.

*Check out our first episode of LIVE FROM THE DUMPSTER.  Our Eco-Action Leader Mr. Grose will be making reports on our paper recycling project.  So far we have earned $350!  We are working towards the $800 Grant total.  

Why add a leap day?: Leap days are needed to keep our calendar in alignment with the Earth's revolutions around the Sun.

It takes the Earth approximately 365.242189 days – or 365 days, 5 hours, 48 minutes, and 45 seconds – to circle once around the Sun. This called a tropical year. Without an extra day on February 29 nearly every four years, we would lose almost six hours every year. After only 100 years, our calendar would be off by approximately 24 days.
