Mindfulness is learning how to pay attention. Mindfulness helps us calm down. Mindfulness strategies can calm your inner spirit. Kids have said it helps them to be a better person. Mindfulness is thinking about what you are doing right now. Not thinking about the future or the past only the present.

4th Grade Music Concert
Our 4th Grade Hoover Rockets will be singing with the Stevenson Choir on Wednesday, January 16th at the Stevenson Performing Arts Center at 7:00 p.m. Mr. Turner would like all the fourth graders to meet in the auditorium of Stevenson High School at 6:15 for a brief warm up and rehearsal. We respectfully ask the parent to wait in the lobby, so the students’ full attention will be on directions and warming up. The auditorium doors will officially open for guests at 6:45.
Please have your child dress up
for the performance. The concert will
begin at 7:00 and should last approximately 45 minutes. We are really looking forward to
this special concert featuring our Hoover Fourth Graders, as well as the older
students.
Cyber Safety
Initiative Assemblies
The
Michigan Attorney General’s office will be conducting presentations on student
safety featuring the Michigan Cyber Safety Initiative (CSI) and the student
safety hotline, OK2SAY. The presentation
will be given to our students on January 18, 2019.
The primary
theme of the K – 1st grade presentation is the “3 Keeps.” Students are instructed to (1) Keep Safe by carefully guarding their
personal information online; (2) Keep
Away from Internet strangers; and (3) Keep
Telling parents or a trusted adult about anything that makes them
uncomfortable. This presentation
features videos from Common Sense Media that discuss important rules for being safe
online and encourage children to seek the help
of an adult they trust when faced with challenging situations like bullying.
The 2nd-4th
grade presentation discusses important rules for being safe online and
encourages students to seek the help of a trusted adult when faced with
challenging situations. The presentation discusses the need to have permission to go online and
to visit only sites where permission has been granted from a teacher or trusted
adult.
Birthday CelebrationsJust a reminder that Hoover is a Healthy School. Birthday treats are not permitted. Please do not send in cupcakes, candy, treat bags etc. If you would like your child's class to celebrate a birthday perhaps your child could donate an indoor recess game or you could send in a pencil for each student in the class. Youth Making a Difference
Has your child completed a community
service project over the summer or are they planning to do so over the holiday
season? Youth Making a Difference is a program that encourages and recognizes
volunteer efforts by K-12 students. Livonia PTSA Council recognizes the efforts
of these students at the annual Youth Making a Difference celebration in April.
Some students, among other things, visit senior citizens, help collect money
for the Livonia Goodfellows, pack lunches for the homeless, or rake leaves and
pick up trash outside their schools or community. The YMAD program and celebration
is a great way to recognize our children’s efforts. The
commitment forms will go home soon and are due back February 22nd.
Projects are due March 22nd and
the ceremony is in April 2019
at Franklin High School.
