Report Cards Go Home
Report cards went home in back pack mail today. Please take a few moments to read and review the report card with your Hoover Rocket. This is a good time to set some behavior and learning goals together.
Hour of Code
Computer Science Education Week is December 9th - 15th this year! Each year around this time, Mrs. Jungwirth takes the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade classes into the computer lab to do some coding. Students use the Hour of Code activities created by Code.org. These activities feature engaging characters (Frozen, Star Wars, Minecraft, etc) and excellent tutorials which not only show the students how to be successful in the game, but also help teach about the importance of computer science and its applications in the real world. The tutorials feature CEO’s, sports stars, musicians, and other industry professionals. Students love participating in these Hour of Code activities at school and often continue working on coding at home after being introduced. The code.org website and Hour of Code activities are completely free to use and also contain many opportunities and avenues for extending learning by offering a free curriculum that students can follow on their own as well as an impressive assortment of games for various levels and abilities. Check it out at https://hourofcode.com/us/learn. You can also find more information about Computer Science Education Week at https://csedweek.org. The Code.org website is also a great resource: https://code.org/ Happy coding!!

Hoover Handbook Highlights
It is important to read and review the student handbook with your child. You can access it under the Quick Links on the right hand side of our website
https://www.livoniapublicschools.org/Page/31
Should Livonia Public Schools need to close due to inclement weather, the announcement would be made on radio stations WJR 760 AM, WWJ 950AM, and television stations WJBK Fox Channel 2, WDIV Channel 4, WXYZ Channel 7 and the city cable channel, 15 for Livonia and 19 for Westland. Please listen for mention of Livonia Public Schools. Additionally parents will receive email notification. Elementary School Students will NOT be dismissed early due to emergency situations. Students may be transported to another facility.
Emergency Plans for Inclement Weather
Please make alternate transportation plans and discuss these with our child before he/she comes to school. Children get confused and worried if they do not know plans ahead of time and receive calls during the day with instructions different from their normal routine. Children learn better when they know from the start of the day what will happen at dismissal if there is a rain or snowstorm.
Did you know that the Hoover staff does a book club? This year we are reading the book "Culturize" by Jimmy Casas, which focuses on developing a climate of trust and excellence in the schools. Great things are happening at Hoover!
