March Character Trait- INTEGRITY
"Integrity is doing the right thing, even when no one is watching.” - C.S. Lewis. It is the core of who you are. Sometimes doing the right thing may bring about criticism from other people, including those whose perspective matters to you. However, you need to remember that no one else lives your life, walks in your shoes or has the same reactions to your situations — be it colleagues, friends or family members. At the end of the day, the only person who must deal with your conscience is you alone. Like No One is Watching Ask yourself this question- Do you walk your talk- whether or not you’re being watched?
We are still collecting gently used children and adult books that are school appropriate for prizes for our Book Bingo Night next week. Please send in the books with your Hoover Rocket. We have bins in the lobby.
March Madness
We are going to try something new at Hoover this year for reading month - a March Madness Book Tournament! We’ve selected the “sweet 16” picture books that will be competing in the tournament. An equal amount of books for upper and lower grades have been chosen and placed in the brackets according to recommended grade level, but they are all great for K-4! All of the books we selected are available to listen to on Storyline Online, an excellent resource where students can listen to great picture books read aloud by famous actors. It is highly recommended to use this resource to read at least some of the books. When “watching” the stories, be sure to click on the “cc” (closed captioning) so that you can read along. Use the “All Books” option or the search bar to find the books easily. The books are also available in limited quantities at the Hoover library and public library.
Vision ScreeningNext week the Wayne County Health Department will be at Hoover conducting Vision Screenings on students in Kindergarten, First and Third grades. If your child does not pass the screening you will be notified.
Did you know that our own Mackenzie artwork is on display at Sam's Place restaurant on the corner of Five Mile and Farmington Roads for the months of March and April. This is part of the Livonia Public School's Art in the Community program to bring attention to the talent, skills and creativity of our students. Please stop in at Sam's Place and look for her art work.
Pistons Game
This Saturday at the pistons game Shayla and Violet V. are participating in the “Day with a Dancer” event. They will be a part of the halftime show. They spent some time this past Sunday at the Pistons training facility learning the routine. If you are attending the Pistons game look for our own Hoover Rockets Shayla and Violet and cheer loudly for them.
The State Reflections Contest results have been announced. Hoover has a winner! Congratulations to Corinne C for her Award of Merit (3rd Place) in the category of Literature in the Intermediate Division. Her piece is titled "Beauty Within". Next year the PTA Reflections Contest Theme is "Because I Matter". This is a great way for your student to express themselves artistically in Literature, Visual Arts, Photography, Dance Choreography, Film Production, and Music Composition. Look for information to come home in June 2020.
