Character Counts!

Hello Hoover Rockets! For the past six years, Livonia Public Schools has been measuring our school climate by surveying students and staff and collecting feedback from focus groups. Two of the key areas that came up were a desire to feel safe at school and also a need for problem solving skill development for our students. To this end, our district will be integrating nine character elements into classrooms at every grade level. Many of these elements will look familiar to our Hoover students. The entire list can be seen in the image below. Our goal is to create a common vocabulary and climate of respect throughout all grades and all buildings. It's nice to work at a place where climate and character are valued by all. Great things are happening at Hoover!

Eco-Action Updates

Hello Hoover Rockets!

Our Eco-Action Iniatiaves are in full swing!  Our 4th Grade Energy Audit Team has been counting light bulbs, and electronic devices in each classroom.  They have been checking the thermostat settings, looking for broken blinds and checking timers.  We will be analzying our energy usage this year and then will be collecting data next Winter.  Our hope is to see a reduction in our energy usage as a result of the new windows and heating units along with a change in our habits.  This is so exciting!

We are still collecting glue containers, ink cartridges, used markers, cell phones and plastic bottle tops.  Look for these containers in the lobby.

Did you know that President Herbert Hoover made the Star Spangled Banner the official National Anthem of the United States.  On March 3, 1931, he signed it into law. The website ourwhitehouse.org also provides details about the song and his role in making it official. It said that "The long journey from a poem written on the back of a letter to our country's national anthem took 117 years."
