Backyard Fun at Hoover!

Hello Hoover Rockets,

WOW!  We had a great week in the back yard at Hoover.  On Monday, Mrs. Skibinski's class planted the Biodiversity Garden.  Thank you to all the parents, volunteers, Livonia Garden Club members and Jimmy Johns for your valuable contributions to our beautiful garden.  Jimmy Johns donated food for the students and the volunteers.  They even came and helped plant in the dirt.  Please show your support for our local Jimmy Johns on Six Mile, by mentioning Hoover when you order your sandwiches. Did you know that Mrs. Skibinski's class was on WDIV last week?  They were planting the Bio-Diversity Garden.  Here is the link to see the story.

Kidstock 2017!
We lucked out with the weather on Tuesday!  The students did an amazing job performing and sharing their special talents.  I was shocked to see all those black belts.  Thank you Mr. Murphy, Mrs. West, Mr. Tony, Mr. Trace, and all the Hoover teachers for all your assistance!
We made $200 from the Burger Spot!  Thank you!

Thank you for supporting your Hoover PTA by purchasing Kona Ice at Kidstock 2017!  We made over $200!  Our Hoover families ROCK!
We are looking forward to the Dunk Tank on Field Day.  The students raised enough money to hit our Target so Mrs. Linn, Mr. O, Mr. Tony and Mrs. Bice will be in the Dunk Tank on Field Day!

Hoover Cares!

Hello Hoover Rockets,

Thank you for the cereal donations!  We collected 305 cereal boxes for Blessings in a Backpack!

Eco-Action Update
Last Thursday, every class at Hoover totaled all of the pounds of paper and cardboard they have recycled in their classrooms since we began weighing in March.  Are you ready for the grand total?  In just 7 weeks, Hoover classrooms recycled 426 pounds!  That is a lot of paper that we saved from going into a landfill.  Good going Hoover Rockets!

Some classes predicted the recycling grand total before we added it all up. Mrs. Cannell's class came in first place by predicting that our grand total would be 276 pounds.  Mrs. Horgan's class came in 2nd place with an estimate of 1,000 pounds.

Keep recycling, weighing and graphing. You are making a difference. Together we can reach for a better world!

The Hoover Outdoor Music Concert Rain Date has been changed to Tuesday, May 30.  We are watching the weather forecast very carefully.

Library News
This is the last week students can check out books from the library.  All books are due back to the Library on Friday, May 26th.  Please look around your house for any Hoover Library Books.  Thank you.

Butterflies in First Grade
Mrs. Poteracki's class has butterflies.  5 of our 6 butterflies have emerged from their chrysalis! The students are so excited to see them!

Thank you to our outgoing PTA board for all your hard work, dedication and time that you have donated to Hoover!  We appreciate all the planning, shopping, organizing, counting, fundraising and caring that you have provided.  Welcome to the new PTA Board!  We look forward to a great 2017/18 school year.

Confident Hoover Rockets!

Hello Hoover Rockets,

Last Monday, we welcomed the new Cass Families to Hoover.  They enjoyed a tour by some of our own students, staff and parents.  Thank you to everyone who helped make this such a great event for our future Hoover Rockets.

M-STEP
Our 3rd graders have completed the M-STEP assessment and 4th grade began on Thursday.  They are doing an amazing job showing GRIT and CONFIDENCE!

Mrs. Cannell's class
Masterworks
On Tuesday in Ms. Charochak's class they had Masterworks.  The kids tried painting like Michelangelo painting the Sistine Chapel, lying on their back under their desks.  They talked about how it was even more challenging for Michelangelo because he was up in the air on a scaffold.

Everyone is invited to join us for our May PTA meeting Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.  We will be discussing the Outdoor Concert and brainstorming ideas for next year.  We will also be voting on the Executive Board for the 2017/18 school year.

We Appreciate You!

Hello Hoover Rockets,

The Hoover staff would like to extend a special thank you to all of our Hoover students and families for this amazing week.  We were inspired reading the notes, loved stocking our supply closets and enjoyed all the yummy treats.  Not having to pack a lunch or fix a breakfast one morning provided us a few more minutes in our day.  Thank you for all the effort that went into this week.  We appreciate all you do to support Hoover as well.

Volunteer Tea
Thank you to all the parents, grandparent, retirees and community members that Volunteer at Hoover.  We were able to personally thank them during our Volunteer Tea on Thursday.  A special thank you to Ms. Charochak for all her hard work in making this event a huge success.

                                                      4th Grade Riley Visit
Our 4th graders went to Riley on Thursday morning, to meet their Pen Pal and walk around the school.  They made a book mark, completed a word search and tested their ability to find their way around the school.  Thank you to our Riley Pen Pals for a great morning.

Science
Last week Mrs. Christensen's class was learning about plants in science.  They went outside to draw some plants and watched the recycling dump truck as they learned about recycling.  Mrs. Lipinski and Ms. Skibinski's class made slime in science.

A great time was had by all despite the cold, wet weather on Sunday at the Tiger game.  Thank you for purchasing tickets and supporting Hoover.
Fun at the Tigers Game!

Our last PTA meeting will be on Tuesday, May 16 at 7:00 p.m.  We will be voting on our Nomination Slate. Everyone is invited to attend.  We hope you can make it.
