Hello Hoover Rockets,

The Battle of the Books was so much fun!  The students were very excited to answer questions and compete.  We had a tie and had to go to the challenging bonus questions.  Congratulations to the winning teams!  Thank you to the teachers, parents and PTA for bringing us this wonderful event.  Here is the link to the video:

1st Grade Field Trip 

Today the first grade students went to the Ann Arbor Hands on Museum.  They had a great time! Thank you to the parents that chaperoned!

All School Read In

Students snuggled up and read with blankets and stuffed animals to end our March is Reading Month.

Did you know that our Kindergarten Classes are collecting items to donate to the Michigan Humane Society?  The students are learning about respect for all animals, safety around animals, and pet care.This is an wonderful opportunity for you child to make a difference in an animal’s life.  We will be collecting donations for the Michigan Humane Society the week of April 9th – April 13th.  Please see the donation list below.

PENNY WARS: April 16th-20th Hoover will have our annual Penny Wars. The contest will decide what animal the PTA should adopt at the Detroit Zoo. Our Hoover Rockets, and sometimes community members, bring in their spare change and place it in one of two jars. This year’s two animal choices will be the giraffe or kangaroo. The winning animal will be adopted and a plaque will be placed outside their habitat at the zoo. This is a fun contest for the students, may the favorite animal win!!!

SCIENCE FAIR: We are very excited to announce we have 121 participants at the Art Fair/Science Fair/Ice Cream Social on April 26th!!! We are looking forward to seeing all of the AMAZING science projects. This will for sure be a night you won’t want to miss!! Please contact Christina Testa, Christina.testa.80@gmail.com, if your participating student did not receive their application returned along with their Science Journal.

Hello Hoover Rockets,

We are continuing with our March is Reading Month activities.  Wednesday, March 28th will be our Battle of the Books event.  We have 18 teams and 185 students participating.  We are not able to open this event up to parents due to the large number of Hoover Rockets that will be recalling information and answering question.  I will take a lot of pictures and will share those.  The children participating will receive their Battle of the Books shirts that morning along with a pizza lunch.  Thank you to the coaches, our PTA, Mrs. King and Mrs. Mayne for facilitating this wonderful opportunity!

Parent Literacy Night

Thank you to the parents that attended our First Annual Parent Literacy Night.  They learned a lot of great tips and strategies to help improve their child's reading.  Thank you to the staff who presented and especially Ms. Fortier for organizing the evening.

Janis Wax Museum 

Miss Janis' class held their Wax Museum this week.  They did a wonderful job sharing and presenting about their famous person.







4th Grade DTE Assembly

As part of our Eco-Action Efforts our 4th grade students learned how they can make a difference with Energy.  They each received a kit with items that will help reduce energy usage in their homes.  Once those items are installed the students are asked to complete a form and turn it in.  If the majority of the forms are completed each class will get $100 from DTE/Consumers Energy.  Please turn in those forms 4th grade families.

                                            M-STEP  4/30-5/25

Our 3rd and 4th Grade students will be taking the M-STEP between 4/30-5/25.  Please refrain from scheduling appointments during these dates so students will not be absent during this important assessment window.  Thanks for your support!

Did you know that Hoover saves energy every day?  Our classroom lights turn off automatically when no one is in the room.  Our heating units are also controlled with a computer so we can program the times that we need heat.  For example if we do not have art on a Thursday the temperature in the Art Room is 60 degrees.

DEARBORN BRAND MEATS: Your purchased items will be available for pick up on Wednesday, March 28th from 3:00pm – 5:00pm at Hoover Elementary.

Tuesday is our first annual Family Literacy Night.  Learn how you can help your child become a better reader. WAX MUSEUM


Mrs. Larabell's Wax Museum was a huge hit on Wednesday.  The students had a lot of fun presenting their facts and testing the visitors on their knowledge.

Now Hiring Crossing Guards


The Livonia Police Department is hiring Crossing Guards for Hoover.  If you are interested you can apply/fill out an application for employment at the City of Livonia's website. They currently have openings for a permanent and a substitute position.  This is a great way to help right here in our Hoover Community.

SPIRIT DAY: Popcorn Sales Day is Friday, March 23rd. For $0.50, your Hoover Rocket can buy a bag of popcorn popped fresh by the Hoover PTA.  Friday, April 13th is GUM DAY.  For $1 your Hoover Rocket can have a gum day. Friday, April 27th, is Career Spirit Day. We apologize for all the switching around of days….we can blame snow days for the rescheduling. Thank you for your support!!

Hello Hoover Rockets,

MARCH IS READING MONTH


March is Reading Month is off to a great start.  We had a Magician on Wednesday to show our students the Magic and Power of Reading.  Battle of the Books practice has begun.  Next week we have Book Bingo Night on Thursday, March 15 6-7:00 p.m.  Guest Reader Day will be on Friday the 16th.

Book Character Spirit Day

Today students dressed as a character from a book.  We saw a lot of Harry Potters, Cat in the Hats and fairies.

MACAL Conference

4 Hoover staff members attended the MACAL Conference (Michigan Association for Computer Users in Learning).  We are always looking for ways to improve at Hoover.

We kicked off the Science Fair this week also.  Students heard about project ideas and the hand out came home!  Students can work with siblings!  Students who turned in a form will be getting their form back with their approved question circled.  Then they will get the packet with the forms for the next step.

Did you know our third grade team has 65 years of teaching experience?  Each of our grade level teams meet and collaborate weekly to plan rigorous, engaging learning opportunities for our Hoover Rockets.  This is a picture of  Mrs. Baughman our Resource Room Teacher planning with 2 of our third grade teachers.  Mrs. Cannell was on her leave this session.  She is returning on Monday!  Welcome back Mrs. Cannell!

Science Fair applications will he accepted through Monday, March 12th. Thank you for all that have submitted so far. All applications will be returned to the students by March 15th. They will also receive the Science Experiment Journal to assist with their project. Our Hoover Rockets have been very creative with their hypotheses. Thank you for supporting your child and the Hoover Science Fair!!!
