5.31.19

Hello Hoover Rockets,

Chef’s Choice 6/5-6/12

Starting Wednesday, June 5th it will be Chef’s Choice everyday.  We will NOT have pizza on Tuesday, June 11th. The snack cart will also not be in service after May 31st.

Lunch Balance

Any student with an outstanding lunch balance will only be able to purchase cheese sandwiches.  We don’t want this to happen to any of our Hoover Rockets so please send in any lunch balances that are due. Thank you!

A note from the LMC

Hard to believe but the end of the school year is coming fast.  The LAST DUE DATE for all student books was Friday, May 24th. Please look for any missing books so bills can be avoided.  Remember any missing books will have to be paid for before a student can check out new books next year. Thanks for your help!  Mrs. Jungwith, Media Specialist

Field Day Reminders
Tuesday, June 4th is Field Day (Rain Day 6/5) Students should wear their team's color, sunscreen (applied at home) and comfortable shoes for exercising. They should bring a water bottle with their name on the bottle.

ECO-ACTION TEAM

The Eco-Action team will be at Hoover weeding the pumpkin patch areas and the "hill" in the Outdoor Classroom this Sunday from 1 - 5 pm in preparation for Field Day on Tuesday, June 4th.   Just like last year, one of the Field Day stations will be planting mini-pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds in the Outdoor Classroom.  This was a great experience for our Hoover Rockets last Field Day and everyone enjoyed the fruits of our labor in the fall when the mini-pumpkins grew.   Please come out and assist for just an hour or so if you are able.  Any amount of time is helpful.  The more, the merrier!   You can also learn all about the native plants and pollinators in the gardens & take home a free strawberry plant!!

Thanks so much for your help in making Hoover a special place for our children!

The Hoover Eco-Action Team

Congratulations to our Retiring Teachers

Mrs. Baughman, Mrs. Horgan, Mrs. Mayne and Mrs. Larabell will be retiring at the conclusion of the school year. They will each be missed all of the staff, students and family members. They have each contributed to making Hoover an amazing school. Future plans include spending time with family, and travel. They are looking forward to having more time to read, golf, paint, and play with grand children. We wish them the best!

Stevenson Clap Out

Congratulations to our Hoover Alumni Stevenson Graduates! It was a great day on Thursday when they came and walked through the building while our Hoover Rockets Clapped them out. We are so proud of each one of them.

Did you know that earlier this year Ms. Fortier, Mrs. Cowher, Ms. Janis and Ms. Neville were providing reading instruction before school?  We are so lucky to have such an amazing, dedicated, compassionate staff at Hoover.  They work countless hours to prepare engaging lessons and hands on activities.  I appreciate each and everyone on our staff who contribute to making Hoover an amazing community or learners.

Parent Connect Reminder

Please take a few minutes to make sure that you are familiar with your Parent Connect account. It is an important resource for information about attendance, teacher assignments, lunch account balances and much more!  This is the way that students will find out who their teacher is in the fall.  The following information was in one of last year’s Hoover Highlights:

Teacher Assignments will be posted on Parent Connect ONLY in the Fall.
Reminder: ELEMENTARY parents, please log into Parent Connect via our website to make sure you are connected! If you’ve never used Parent Connect, you’ll want to log in prior to next school year, when LPS will post ELEMENTARY teacher/classroom assignments in Parent Connect. We will not be mailing a letter with your child’s teacher assignment.
To access Parent Connect, go to the Parents tab at livoniapublicschools.org and click on Parent Connect. Log in with your user name and password, which was issued at the time of registration. There, you may check classes, assignments, grades, attendance, cafeteria accounts, transportation assignments and more, in addition to managing account settings. If you do not have your log-in, please contact Mrs. Holmes (734-744-2730).

Kindergarten Orientation

We will be hosting Kindergarten Orientation on June 6th.  Please make sure your child is registered for Kindergarten so they can attend our Orientation.  This is a very important first step for students to feel comfortable and excited for school.  Please mention it to any new families in your neighborhood.

Did you know that originally Memorial Day was known as Decoration Day, meant to honor the Union and the Confederate soldiers who died during the American Civil War? By the 1900s it had become a day to celebrate all American soldiers who died while serving in the military. It wasn't until 1967 that it was legally named Memorial Day.
June 4th is Muenchies Fundraiser Day.  A percentage of the sales come back to Hoover.

Green Flag Ceremony

Lots of activity this week outside as we were getting ready for the Green Flag Ceremony.  Students worked in the Bio-diversity Garden, planted seeds, placed painted rock in the garden and watched the new flag pole be installed.  Then on Friday Ranger Rick was here along with Senator Polehanki, Superintendent Oquist, Laura Toy, School Board Members, Livonia Greenleaf Commission and many others.  Hoover is the first school in the State of Michigan to receive this honor!!!

Ride Your Bike to School Day

We had over 50 students ride their bike to school on Wednesday.  Great job exercising and saving the environment!

Staff Appreciation Week Thank You

Thank you for all the wonderful treats, school supplies, flowers and gifts.  We feel so lucky to be surrounded by such a caring community. It was fun to watch our Hoover Rockets delivering items throughout the week.  The building was filled with smiles!

Did you know that even small exposures to nature are beneficial? Ming Kuo from the Department of Natural Resources researched  whether nature based instruction was more effective than traditional instruction.  "If you're indoors, having a view of your yard as opposed to facing the wall, that makes a difference.  At the same time, more is better.  That's one of the things that gives us more confidence that we're seeing a real cause-end-effect relationship.  The bigger the dose of nature we give a person, the bigger the effect we see in them" says Ming Kuo.

Thank you to all who donated items and your time to help make this such a special Staff Appreciation Week!

The staff was treated to a breakfast with a small favor, a popcorn bar, a school supply bar, a Qdoba catered lunch with gift raffle, and will receive a small gift tomorrow.

All this with the wonderful gifts, flowers, sweet notes and so much more that the children did for the staff made for a fantastic week!

Thank you to the following companies for their donations to make our gift raffle possible!
Sweet 220, A&R Workshop, BJ’s Brewhouse, Phoenix Theater, Meri-Craft Florist, Merri-Bowl, Rusty Bucket, Las Palapas, Sweet 200, Granite City, Buddy’s, Sinbads Mediterranean, and Joes Produce.

Please join us for the last PTA meeting of the school year Tuesday May 14th at 7 pm.  We will be voting in the E-Board for the next school year, bring a Hoover parent with you.
