Dear Hoover Rockets,

Hoot N'Howl is this Friday from 6;00-8:00 p.m.  This is one of my favorite nights.  We will have a DJ, games, food and fun activities.  Students are not permitted to bring toy weapons to school for the Halloween parties or for Hoot N' Howl.  Students are also asked not to wear masks with their costumes.  We have young students who might be afraid of the masks.  Thanks for following the school rules.

Safety on Levan
If you park on the neighboring streets south of Hoover, please make sure you are parking in a legal spot.  Drivers can not see students crossing at the sidewalk when cars are parked close to the corner. Students have been walking between cars and crossing Levan south of Hoover.  This is not safe. Please make sure parents and students are crossing at the Cross Walk with our Crossing Guards.  The Livonia Police Department has been notified and will be helping us to keep our students safe.

Parent/Teacher Conferences
Thank you to all the parents/guardians that attended conferences this week.  Together we will achieve our academic goals.  Keep reading with your children and talking about what they have read.  The conversation after reading is just as important as reading.

Lunch in Classrooms due to Halloween Obstacle Course
Mr. O will have his famous Halloween Obstacle Course set up in the Multipurpose Room again this year.  Students will be eating lunch in their classrooms on Thursday, October 26th and Friday, October 27th.  If your child is in a Nut Free classroom (Hawker, Eckerle, Janis, Lipinski, Skibinski) or a Dairy Free classroom (Larabell) or a Pineapple Free Classroom (Poteracki) please try not to pack these items in their lunch on these days.  Thanks for your support.

 Book Fair
The Book Fair was a huge success!  Thank you to everyone who purchased books to support our library and classrooms.

                                                 Rocket Pad School Store
It is with great excitement that we are happy to announce that The Hoover School Store, The Rocket Pad, will be opening next week (10/24).  This year, the students on the Hoover Leadership Team will be working at the store and helping customers with their purchases.  The store sells everything from pencils to glue sticks and look for special surprises during the holiday seasons.  The First and Second Graders will be shopping on Tuesdays during their lunch recess and the Third and Fourth Graders will be shopping during their lunch recess on Thursdays.  Items range in price from a nickel to three dollars.  Gift cards are also available in fifty cents and $1.00 denominations.  Thank you to Mrs. Hawker and Ms. Charochak for supervising the Student Council Students.
Hoover Community, our hearts are bursting with pride!! Thank you for all the coats you donated for our coat drive. We collected over 100!!! From the 100 “coats” collected, 67 of them will be eligible to help the homeless Detroit Public Schools students. We will be accepting LARGER CHILDREN’S AND ADULT SIZED WINTER COATS THROUGH MONDAY. Next week the coats will leave Hoover for the Detroit Marches Organization. From there they will start to be passed out to homeless Detroit Public Schools students. THANK YOU, Hoover for being so generous!

NEXT FRIDAY is Hoover’s annual Fall Party. Get ready for a SPOOK-tacular time! The HOOT-N-HOWL is Friday, October 27, from 6:00pm-8:00pm. Children are welcome to dress in costumes (no masks, blood or weapons, please). We will be offering games, refreshments, music and dancing. Also, the winners of the guessing jars, pumpkin weight contest, and the Walk-a-Thon gift card drawing will be near the end of the celebration! Come dine with us, play games and enjoy the evening with your HOOVER FAMILY.
Adult ghouls are still needed to help with the event. The sign up genius has been updated to include both donation requests and volunteers.

Please remember to drop off donated items in the lobby by the date indicated on the Sign Up Genius.  Perishable items can be brought in and left in the PTA freezer or refrigerator.
Thank you for helping to make this a SPOOK-tacular night for our AMAZING HOOVER ROCKETS!

Did you know that we serve breakfast every morning beginning at 8:30 AM? Students getting dropped off or riding the bus may enter the cafeteria and eat breakfast before getting in line or going to classrooms. Students not eating breakfast should arrive no earlier than 8:40 AM when our crossing guard and bus monitors go out for morning supervision. We want to make sure that all students are safe at school. Great things are happening at Hoover!
