Heart Month

Mr. O has a lot of events planned this month for us for Heart Month.  Save the date 2/26 6:30-8:00 is Family Fitness Night.

BATTLE OF THE BOOKS
Our kick off coaches meeting will be on Tuesday, February 19th at 4:00 in the Community Room!  If you volunteered to coach please try and attend this important meeting.  Thank you.

We are looking for a couple more parents to help with Battle of the Books.  We need one person to help coordinate the volunteers on Friday, March 29th and one person to help coordinate the donated items and bags.

Please see the Sign Up Genius Below if you can help.

Thank you to those parents who have volunteered to coach or donate items.  Hoover is such a great community.

Lost and Found Table

Our lost and found is overflowing.  We will be displaying some of the Lost and Found items next week.  Please remind your Hoover Rocket to check the Lost and Found for any items that they may be missing.  We have a lot of gloves, water bottles, and sweatshirts.  We will be making a donation to the Clothing Depot soon!

Did you know parents are children’s first and most enduring teachers, and modelling empathetic behavior is one of the best ways parents can teach their child this valuable skill.

Other simple ways empathy can be developed include:
  • Helping your child to name their feelings, as understanding their own feelings is an important first step in understanding the feelings of others
  • Talking to your child about how other people may be feeling, and why. This helps to build their emotional language and think about other people’s perspectives.
  • Caring for animals and plants, which helps children understand the role they play in helping another living thing survive, thrive and be happy.
Perhaps one of the simplest ways of all to help children develop a sense of empathy is by reading books together, as children learn to associate feelings and actions with their favorite characters and stories.

Youth Making a Difference
Has your child completed a community service project over the summer or are they planning to do so over the holiday season? Youth Making a Difference is a program that encourages and recognizes volunteer efforts by K-12 students. Livonia PTSA Council recognizes the efforts of these students at the annual Youth Making a Difference celebration in April. Some students, among other things, visit senior citizens, help collect money for the Livonia Goodfellows, pack lunches for the homeless, or rake leaves and pick up trash outside their schools or community. The YMAD program and celebration is a great way to recognize our children’s efforts. The commitment forms will go home soon and are due back February 22nd. Projects are due March 22nd and the ceremony is in April 2019 at Franklin High School.
