3.23.18

Hello Hoover Rockets,

We are continuing with our March is Reading Month activities.  Wednesday, March 28th will be our Battle of the Books event.  We have 18 teams and 185 students participating.  We are not able to open this event up to parents due to the large number of Hoover Rockets that will be recalling information and answering question.  I will take a lot of pictures and will share those.  The children participating will receive their Battle of the Books shirts that morning along with a pizza lunch.  Thank you to the coaches, our PTA, Mrs. King and Mrs. Mayne for facilitating this wonderful opportunity!

Thank you to the parents that attended our First Annual Parent Literacy Night.  They learned a lot of great tips and strategies to help improve their child's reading.  Thank you to the staff who presented and especially Ms. Fortier for organizing the evening.

4th Grade DTE Assembly

As part of our Eco-Action Efforts our 4th grade students learned how they can make a difference with Energy.  They each received a kit with items that will help reduce energy usage in their homes.  Once those items are installed the students are asked to complete a form and turn it in.  If the majority of the forms are completed each class will get $100 from DTE/Consumers Energy.  Please turn in those forms 4th grade families.

                                            M-STEP  4/30-5/25

Our 3rd and 4th Grade students will be taking the M-STEP between 4/30-5/25.  Please refrain from scheduling appointments during these dates so students will not be absent during this important assessment window.  Thanks for your support!

Did you know that Hoover saves energy every day?  Our classroom lights turn off automatically when no one is in the room.  Our heating units are also controlled with a computer so we can program the times that we need heat.  For example if we do not have art on a Thursday the temperature in the Art Room is 60 degrees.

DEARBORN BRAND MEATS: Your purchased items will be available for pick up on Wednesday, March 28th from 3:00pm – 5:00pm at Hoover Elementary.
Thank you for supporting your Hoover Rocket with this PTA fundraiser.

PENNY WARS: April 16th-20th Hoover will have our annual Penny Wars. The contest will decide what animal the PTA should adopt at the Detroit Zoo. Our Hoover Rockets, and sometimes community members, bring in their spare change and place it in one of two jars. This year’s two animal choices will be the giraffe or kangaroo. The winning animal will be adopted and a plaque will be placed outside their habitat at the zoo. This is a fun contest for the students, may the favorite animal win!!!

SCIENCE FAIR: We are very excited to announce we have 121 participants at the Art Fair/Science Fair/Ice Cream Social on April 26th!!! We are looking forward to seeing all of the AMAZING science projects. This will for sure be a night you won’t want to miss!! Please contact Christina Testa, Christina.testa.80@gmail.com, if your participating student did not receive their application returned along with their Science Journal.

Next PTA meeting is Tuesday, April 10th at 7pm in the Community Room. We hope you can join us!!
