1.25.19

Hello Hoover Rockets,

We are concerned with throwing away 20 pounds of uneaten food each day.  The Eco-Acton Team and the LPS Food Service is exploring the implementation of a sharing table.   This will help milk and other packaged foods get a second chance.
We want to thank US Ecology for helping us with this lesson.  A big shout out to all the parent volunteers.
We also want to thank the Livonia Green Leaf Commission and the National Wildlife Federation for their interest in our work!

Walk-a-thon Winner Lunch

Last Friday our Walk-a-thon Winners enjoyed lunch with their special person.  Thank you to those families and friends that raised a lot of money for Hoover.

PTSA Chili Cook Off

Last Saturday the PTSA hosted a Chili Cook Off.  Mr. Schenk and Mr. Bramer prepared their special recipes and had a great time at the Cook Off.  Thanks for representing Hoover.

Battle of the Books

Look for the Battle of the Books permission slip to come home soon.  1st-4th grade students can participate.  They will be put on teams and will meet a couple times a week to discuss their books, get new books and practice for the Battle.  The students will be assigned to teams based on their grade and reading level.  Each team will be made up of students in 1st-4th grade with a variety of reading levels.  If you are interested in volunteering we need coaches and volunteers to help the day of the Battle (3/29).  Coaches will have a meeting to prepare you and you will be given guidance.  No worries.  Last year this was a huge success and the students had a great time reading and answering comprehension questions.  Thank you to Mrs. Mayne and our PTA for organizing this wonderful event.  Please click on the link below if you would like to volunteer:

Youth Making a Difference
Has your child completed a community service project over the summer or are they planning to do so over the holiday season? Youth Making a Difference is a program that encourages and recognizes volunteer efforts by K-12 students. Livonia PTSA Council recognizes the efforts of these students at the annual Youth Making a Difference celebration in April. Some students, among other things, visit senior citizens, help collect money for the Livonia Goodfellows, pack lunches for the homeless, or rake leaves and pick up trash outside their schools or community. The YMAD program and celebration is a great way to recognize our children’s efforts. The commitment forms will go home soon and are due back February 22nd. Projects are due March 22nd and the ceremony is in April 2019 at Franklin High School.
