Hoover Week #2

Hello Hoover Rockets,

We had a great first week of school!  The students are learning routines and enjoying getting to know their teacher and classmates.  Thanks for taking time to open and read the weekly blog. Our Hoover Rockets achieve great academic success when we communicate together and work as a team.

iReady Testing this Week

All next week, our first-fourth graders will be assessed in Reading and Math using the i-Ready Diagnostic assessment on the computer.
Please make sure your child is well-rested and motivated to do well!  Please avoid appointments during the school day if at all possible.
Healthy habits promote success!  Thank you for your continued support.

Pink Emergency Cards
Please return the pink emergency cards ASAP! This is our connection to you, meeting all of your child's needs.

Climate Character Traits

Each month at Hoover we focus on a climate character trait. This month we are focusing on RESPONSIBILITY!

Freedom Run

On Wednesday, September 11, 2019 our Hoover Rockets will spell out USA and hear some of our rights as US Citizens.  Then they will run for a little while.  Please make sure they are dressed comfortably and wearing red, white and blue.If you would like to volunteer to help with the Freedom Run please click on the link below to sign up.

Picture Day is Thursday, September 12th

All students will get their picture taken in the morning. Please remember to send in the picture day order form or you can go on-line to order pictures. The easiest way to order school pictures is by ordering at mylifetouch.com

Curriculum Night/Open House

Please plan on attending our Curriculum Night and Open House on Tuesday, September 17th. This is a very important evening for you to learn about the curriculum, classroom routines and expectations. Last year we had 94% participation. We know we can beat that this year. Mark your calendars! We will have a magician in the Multipurpose Room so parents can attend the Curriculum Night sessions and focus on the critical information.
5:30-6:15 K-2 Curriculum Night
6:15-6:30 Open House
6:30-7:15 3-4 Curriculum Night

Money Mondays
Our Hoover staff pay $1 to wear jeans on Mondays and the funds are used to support a needy family during the holidays.

Library Volunteers
If you're looking for a fun way to volunteer at Hoover, sign up to be a library volunteer!  Volunteers help out with book check-in/check-out, shelving, labeling new books, and creating displays.  No experience is necessary.  I am looking for 1-2 people to come in during each library time. For Kindergarten classes, I'd love to have 2 helpers each week!  If you can commit to coming every week, that would be great!  The link is https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080b4caaad28a46-library1
If you'd like to help out, but can't commit to volunteering weekly, there are always opportunities to volunteer during book fair.  In addition, if you are creative and want to donate your time and energy, I can always use help creating bulletins and displays."
Did you know that we have many new staff at Hoover this year?  Each week we will feature a staff member in this section of the blog for you to get to know.

Christine Broom, Resource Room Teacher

As a former Hoover student, I am so excited to be back! I have taught at Johnson Upper Elementary for the past 4 years as a Center Resource Teacher.  My husband Matt and I met in our high school foods class at Stevenson, and after graduating college, we decided to move back to Livonia. We have been married for 4 years and welcomed our beautiful son Benjamin this past December. He is 8 months old and is so much fun! I am nearing the end of my course work for my Master’s degree from Western Michigan. In my free time I love to run, read, and spend time at the lake.
